IB to Recruiter: The Biggest L in Finance Exits?
You sell your 20s to a bank. 100-hour weeks, models at 3am, an MD who “needs it by morning” and doesn’t open it till Tuesday. And the reward is... calling other analysts about jobs you didn’t get? Bro. Seriously?
You beat out 10,000 kids for a spot at a BB, and the exit is cold-messaging people on LinkedIn.
It’s also mostly women who make this jump. I’m not judging, I just want to know why it’s such a pattern. Burnout? Couldn’t land PE/HF? Better pay than we admit?
Realistically this thread won’t get a real answer, because there are maybe four women lurking on this site. But prove me wrong tho.
Lowkey had this convo w IB friends recently. Think it’s a combination of decent pay + WLB, and realistically, you could be really great at this job, considering a majority of recruiters have no idea wtf they’re talking about.
Might be an ego hit to help people achieve that next step - but all things considered, you’re likely off the path by choice and not by force.
