IB vs HF vs PE - I love to research

Honestly, if I find a topic that I like, there is no stopping me from finding out everything I can about it. I tend to prefer a breadth, not depth" approach, I feel more comfortable covering many names rather than doing a deep dive into only a few. I then like to organize the info in some sort of coherent form. If needed, I could write a report about my findings. I find that in the evenings, when I'm surfing the Web, fulfilling my curiosity, is the time when I find myself lost in the moment.

Is there a finance job where I can do this? What kind of careers would fall under this realization? How is research used in PE and HF?

I thought at AM or ER, you’ll have to do deep dives into only a few companies.  I tend to prefer a breadth, not depth" approach, I feel more comfortable covering many names rather than doing a deep dive into only a few. Would FI a better fit for me? How do you know if I like investing?

Sell-side it is a few companies, asset management can be much more as you can cover more than one sector. How will you know if you like investing? Not to be a dick, but do some research and read some books on investing. If you don't know enough about the topic to know whether you have at least a basic interest in it, then good luck getting any investing job..

Sounds like LO AM would be the perfect fit. The long investment time horizon and lack of tight timelines lends itself well to research. After that, probably a HF would be best.

You can do a top down approach, but at some point you’re going to have to make a recommendation on specific names. Also, maybe look into the FI side. It’s much more macro (you’re not trying to project quarterly EPS down to the penny)
