iBanking - state of industry?

I've recently had a few people tell me that ibanking is dead, changed forever, no longer a viable career path, etc. One was a BB ibanker but his group was shut down and he is now in admin inside the same bank wishing he could get back into the deal business. The other was tracking to ibanking and chose elsewhere for lack of oppty/career path.

They make sweeping generalizations about, no more banker jobs, we missed the golden years, etc.

But M&A activity is strong, no disruptive technology - what's changed to make these guys say that? Is this just a BB issue? Sour grapes?
