both MS and GS took some but looks like that process is over. elite boutiques like Lazard and Evercore always seem to be hiring/growing.
there are always one off positions opening up across the street but its never a large movement such that multiple people on this board would be in the know about it. your best bet is to connect with contacts at different banks and ask if they know of any lateral positions.
Bump - anyone know of any firms hiring?

Take your pick. There is always someone looking for lateral hires.
there are no top boutiques [that are not sweatshops]
Unlikely at this moment. New analyst and associate class just joined. No need to add new warm body that soon.

Hi all,
My school's on the quarter system, and there are good odds that I'm graduating early, in March/April. I'm currently applying for a position at a boutique for full-time recruitment, but I know that lateral hires happen year-round. Do you think I could keep in touch with my contacts and try to be a lateral hire in the spring fresh out of college or is that too close to the entry of the new analyst class?
I started hunting after 6 months, lateraled in ~9.
Lateral Hire... What matters? (Originally Posted: 01/26/2016)
Hi All,
If I break into a small local boutique with low grades, how long would I have to stay there until I can lateral to a larger/better bank without my grades being scrutinized? Is every new analyst hire asked for their GPA regardless if they're straight out of university or it's a lateral?
Thanks!

Take a look at my lateral guide.
1st year lateral hire questions - IBD (Originally Posted: 03/04/2010)
I am a first year analyst who will be having a lateral hire interview next week with one of thE BB firms within their IBD division. I am interviewing for the same sector group I currently worm in - what I would like to ask everyone here is that what sort of technical questions should I expect.
Can anyone provide some sort of examples as this will be my first interview with some substantial experience undery belt and I clearly expect to be grilled on the technical aspects of the role. All my previous interviews were while I was at university and those ones were hardly ever tehnical let alone focused on modelling and valuation.
What group are you in? Technical questions will probably be based on your deals, so make sure you know them cold. Expect valuation questions, what specifically you've done and maybe even some hypothetical situations in the same space that you're working in. How did you value X, how would you value X if Y, etc. Other questions will probably be around why you are leaving, fit questions, etc.

Thanks for your input! My team mainly does originiation so haven't had full blown exposure to valuation hence my desire to move. Nevertheless I have had fair bit of experience on evaluating merger and lbo models.

Hey all, my first post.
I am trying to make a lateral move into a bulge bracket bank and I am just wondering about the type of questions (fit/technical) that will definitely be asked. I am currently finishing up my first year with a middle market bank.
Has anyone else gone through this? Any inputs?
Did you choose to start your career at a MM bank or was it the only option you got that time?
def more technical at this point since you gotta know your stuff cold. they may ask somethng like if you do "X" how does that affect the statements. also expect detailed questions about your deals and be able to explain the "big picture" of all the transactions you worked on...not everyone can do this...have a good reason why you want to go to BB and why your leaving MM - dont say bad things about the MM bank either...other questions are more fit questions that you prob already seen before.
...with ibanalyst. one good line that BB guys will like is highlighting that be the vitrue of being at a mm place, deal and staffing dynamics would have been different. there are half a doyen people who have come from mm places to my firm using this punch line. it goes something like this. mm deals are thinner in staffing and lower in fat (D, MD content) that bb deals. Think on a 20bn deal everyone and their dog will be on the team at a bb and duing sweek f%$§ all. So. highlight that as part of a tighetr knit team, you have seen more big picture stuff, understand more than just crunching some silly numbers that any monkey can do (stuff like meeting management rather than being an excel jockey). VPs at BBs love this coz this sounds like the type of person they can dump some of their own workload onto even though theyre an analyst, and as a VP its easier to get staffed with an analyst than an associate under you. good luck.

i am not quite sure what you mean. if that is the answer that everyone gives, doesn't it mean it's cliched and contrite, not to mention unoriginal?
also, it sounds like you are highlighting a positive thing at the middle market level. if you have it so good at the MM level, why would you want to switch?
i am just not sure i got the entire logic behind your argument.
I appreciate the input of course, would just like a little clarification.
