If I want to go into IB, what internships should I look for before and after first year of undergrad?

Currently, a senior in high school who wants to get into IB. Wanted to know what kind of internships to look for before starting undergrad and for the summer after my freshmen year.

Like other people have mentioned, working at a no-name bank is by far the best, and if you can't do that, go into something like accounting/corporate finance/etc that builds your banking resume. This will definitely be more feasible your freshman and sophomore summers, with the goal of setting up a great gig after your junior year.

I networked my ass off to get a job at a garbage buy-side shop, which I wouldn't really recommend. If you are serious about banking, do something that will help you hone the specific skills and help you tell your story during a banking interview, and a buy-side gig doesn't really help with that. If I put in the same amount of effort I did to get this job, I'm sure I could have landed something at a no-name boutique that would have been way more helpful.

That being said, only do that once you're in college. No one will hire you as a high school graduate, so go do something fun and make some spending money for college. I was a camp counselor before starting my freshman year and had an awesome time.

If you're from NYC then look at Ladders for Leaders and DSY. You can land an internship at a Big 4 or BB through those programs. Also, if you know ur going to college in NYC, look at the JPM Smart Smart Program.
