Incoming analyst looking for tips on housing/budgeting

Hey everyone - going to be starting FT at a BB in NYC this summer. The base is 110k, which from smart assets is around 6700 post-tax monthly. I was hoping those with experience moving the move to NYC and apartment hunting could give some advice.

Criteria: no roommates, preference for 1bdr but open to studios

question:

- how much of my post-tax income should I be spending per month on rent? I was thinking 2000-2700

- what neighborhoods should I look at?

- aside from street easy, any good resources?

- I want to do the search in 2 ways; first would be to fly out to NYC for a week and stay in a hotel and apartment hunt, second is to book an airbnb for a month or so and gradually search for an apartment.
