Incoming UBS SA 2026, how cooked am I?
I've seen the threads. Yes, I know people might be overreacting, but it's clearly bad.
Struggling with how to approach the summer. Should I assume I'm not getting/going to want a return and just start networking to re-recruit right away? Is that even possible in this job market?
If I do lateral, does group placement matter? For example, if I really like a group that weaker, should I just go for it anyway?
Worked hard for the offer and have been feeling deflated, so I'd appreciate any guidance.

UBS analyst here who’s seen everything.
1) Should you assume you won’t get an offer?
No you should assume 50% of people will get offers. It may be very group dependent. If you know you can outperform vs your peers, you’ll be fine. Even if you don’t get an offer, you’re not necessarily cooked either (I think my life may have been genuinely better if I never got caught up in this shitshow of a bank).
2) If I do lateral, does group placement matter? For example, if I really like a group that weaker, should I just go for it anyway?
Depends on your goals. If you want to exit to PE, you may be fine in your UBS group assuming you also have good school / pedigree / technical / modeling skills. In fact, if you can get on cycle (which you probably can’t for most MFs/UMMs from UBS tbh) you may be okay depending on your group. It’s advantageous to get an offer now rather than in 2 years where if they ask about your deal experience and you have none except for junior roles on refinancings, you’re screwed.
If you want to stay in banking long term or don’t know what you want to do, I think lateraling to a weaker group / bank is 100% fine and actually preferable. If I had gone to TD or WF or [insert shitty bank here] instead of UBS, I would have gotten paid more, had less stress and done less damage to my mental physical health and hated my life less.
Recruit during your internship, recruit after you get the offer, try not to end up at UBS. I deeply regret UBS and think it is structurally broken with an extremely toxic culture and would not recommend to anyone. Most of the groups at UBS are very bad in terms of culture and exits.
Don't know how you can call other banks shitty when you are at UBS
No I’m saying other shitty banks are better than UBS because UBS is even shittier.

Rerecruit
There is one person here consistently hate posting about UBS under different titles. The guy clearly has massive issues, relax.
