Internal lateral final round - why are they taking so long to get back to me?

Hi monkeys, I work at a BB and completed a final round interview for an internal move around 1.5 weeks ago. In my past interviews, final round outcomes have always been same day / next day whether positive or negative - does anyone have some insight on why it may be taking a while to get back to me? Is this a good sign or bad?

I emailed the staffer on the team a few days ago who said they are still reviewing and will get back to me.

Not sure what to think.

Like 100% dinged? Why would they not communicate that sooner like for most external ACs?

Why would the VP respond to my follow-up - I assumed if it was a ding, I'd just be ignored.

You’ve been rejected. If you’re moving forward hiring teams move quickly, if not they just ghost you. It’s gotten worse in the last few years I assume because the job market has become so slanted in favor of the employer that even when a candidate asks for an update like you did they’ll tell “we’re still going through our process” knowing damn well it’s not you. I have no idea why hiring teams and HR can’t just give a direct “it’s not you” other than cowardice but they can do that when they know they have a million candidates to pick from so they can just treat every candidate like crap.

I’ve seen this first hand as both the hiring team and the candidate literally hundreds of times. The only time someone got an offer after waiting more than a couple weeks was because the first choice candidate fell through and they were the silver medal.

Ended up being waitlisted and after catching up with the team, they said my performance was very strong and if more headcount comes up, I may be hired then. Any thoughts on the merit of this or are they just being polite?

That's good to hear - maybe this is what happened. I heard from an analyst on the team that they ended up hiring only women given DEI push and the team being largely male currently. Not sure how true this is but could be the reason. If so, how long do you think it will likely take before they reach out to me after getting more headcount and will it be a simple offer or more interviews?

I plan to keep in touch with the staffer and a few people on the team going for regular coffees - I would ideally like to switch internally within 6 months as I'm not super happy in my current role.
