Internal Transfer from APAC BB IBD to NY Question

I’m currently a sophomore at a U.S. target school (think Ivies), a U.S. citizen, and I’ve secured a 2027 SA IB offer at a top BB (GS / MS / JPM) in APAC. My goal, however, has been to work in IB in New York.

I’m trying to understand whether it makes more sense to pursue an internal transfer versus re-recruiting for a New York IB role, potentially even at a middle-market firm, for full-time.

Specifically, I have two questions:

  1. How does the internal transfer process from an APAC office to NY typically work at bulge brackets, particularly given that I’m a U.S. citizen?
  2. Is it realistic to intern in APAC but convert to a full-time IB role in NY at the same firm?
