Internship doing private placements - relevant?
Currently about to enter my sophomore year, and I'm interviewing for an internship at a boutique bank this fall. The bank mainly does private placements, and I would likely get some involvement with these deals while I'm there. It might not be as ideal as doing M&A, but it's been pretty tough to get anything for this fall.
I know that a lot of coverage groups at BB banks help companies raise capital, but publicly. In this case, how relevant would the experience be for IB SA recruiting? If I get this offer, should I take it or keep looking for more opportunities? If it may be relevant, I did a buyside internship this summer (think PE/VC).
Thanks
Private placements is a function of DCM, which is an IB product group. In this current environment, any relevant internship for your sophomore summer is pretty amazing. You can easily use this experience to help recruit for your junior year internship. Just my opinion though.
