Interviewing with a Beta
*Beta probably is not the best word to use, just because I can't help but think I sound like an ass. In the case of getting to your interview and the interviewer is introverted and proud (Think Martin Shkreli), as opposed to someone who is willing to have conversation, how should you approach these types of situations. With a social interviewer, it is much easier to read the room. With the douschebag, I don't know what he's thinking/looking for. Are there any d-bags out there that can shed some light on what they look for in an interview?
Only betas call other people beta. Since you both are betas, I don't see the issue on why you can't connect with him/her. As they all say... just be yourself.
truuuuu this guy gets it
(not OP btw)
Sounds like the smartest guy at the firm.
Decisions are usually made within a minute of meeting someone in my experience.
hey man fuck you. Martin did nothing wrong.
I had an interview with this type of person years ago and it was one of the most intimidating experiences. I was also not prepared and he could tell. In a different setting I would’ve really enjoyed him as a person, but that’s beside the point. Point is, dont waste their time with bullshit cause they’ll see right through it. Introverts are commonly misunderstood as being antisocial, that’s not the case for many of them. Introverts will absolutely open up once they see common ground or if you say something interesting enough. Introverts are great listeners and won’t forget any of the stupid shit you babble, so make your babbling thoughtful or about actual relatable facts/stories. Show them you did research. Chances are he’s one of the smartest people there and he didn’t get there by smooth talking everyone. The interview goes both ways and you’re expected to have just as much to say as the interviewer. If there’s a lull, just start peppering him with questions and keep probing deeper into whatever he says with open ended questions. These types of people are some of the most valuable people to have as a mentor or in your team, so you might want to rephrase the word beta going forward
Facts.
Introvert would be a better term. Or if the guy wasn't the first to interview you, someone else you interviewed with may have said something like "kids not a fit", "thumbs down from me" and before they even walk in the room their mind is 95% made up.
I don't know about all that but I can confirm you sound like an ass.
Lol good luck passing cultural fit in any interview anywhere with that attitude
Precisely.
The "beta" is making 6 figures in the job you're trying to get, and his personality didn't mesh with OPs. Perhaps the real beta is OP.
Had a superday interview with an MD from H/W. Total hardo D-bag. Could not read the guy for the life of me, made the same blank face (no eye contact; jotting notes) to all of my responses. Got the offer, but I interviewed with others as well. Some people are just fucking stonewalls
