Is BMO a sweatshop?
I was considering lateraling but not hearing great things on the street. Can anyone speak to the culture/pay?
Thanks

Sweaty and generally toxic. Heard metals and mining is the most toxic by a sizable margin, which is wildly impressive considering how much my contacts there hate their own teams.
Thanks this is helpful
Anyone able to expand on why BMO metals & mining is considered a sweat shop and toxic? They are well known to be the best metals and mining group in the world
Someone mentioned their analysts stay up to 3am daily and senior level guys are abusive
Interesting information, thank you 😀
Is this true?
Bump
.
From the people I know who work / worked there, metals and mining is awful but the rest seems fine.
I second this. metals and mining is the one to avoid if you have multiple offers. Rest is OK. This is in Canadian office btw.
sponsors is pretty good
Just got an SA offer in Chicago - anything specific about that location and the teams there?
Someone in a Chicago group told me their MD / VP didn't check their work
BMO is pretty damn sweaty. They are steady chasing deals outside of their depth, which doesn't help.
This is accurate.
BMO, other than M&M and their Montreal office both of which are notoriously sweaty, it's not a particularly sweaty bank. However, the general culture is toxic AF so maybe you'll go home at a normal hour but still hate however long you have to spend at the office.
Angry frenchmen = BMO
How bad/toxic is metal and mining at bmo? Can someone tell us stories and what to watch out for as an analyst there? What if I don’t have any other offers? Interested in the corp banking group there
