Jefferies IB or ML Equities Research, both in NYC for the summer.
I know they're two different animals, but I'm curious about exit opportunities, salary (bonus with research?), and their respective lifestyles.

...I would suggest you go to Jefferies. Jefferies is a top middle market firm and you should be placed into the generalist pool (as they do with all of their NY analysts). From there, you can hope to secure a full time offer and be a very competitive candidate for full time recruitment at all the banks (both mid-market and BB).
Just my thoughts...though if you prefer equity research, this is a no brainer, go to ML.
