Jefferies London

Hello,

Fortunate enough to have received an offer to join Jefferies in London for their off-cycle program.

Have a good idea of deal flow from my conversations, but would be great to get an idea of culture. The narrative on here is quite Jefferies US centric, from my discussions it seems pretty good on the surface but would like to get a bit more info before I join! TIA

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Jefferies' culture in London, like in other locations, is highly group-dependent. While the firm is known for its "sweaty" culture, with long hours and demanding workloads, there are positives to consider:

  1. Group Variability: The culture at Jefferies is largely shaped by the senior bankers in each group. This variability means some teams may have a more supportive and collaborative environment, while others could be more cutthroat.

  2. Junior Experience: Jefferies is described as having a "work-hard, play-hard" culture at the junior level. Juniors often enjoy significant exposure and responsibility, which can be a great learning opportunity.

  3. Reputation in Europe: Jefferies' European teams, particularly in sectors like healthcare, are well-regarded. The firm has been growing rapidly, which can lead to strong deal flow but also increased pressure on junior staff due to a lag in headcount growth.

  4. Overall Dynamics: While the hours can be tough (80-100+ in some cases), many juniors report good team dynamics and strong support from senior members, especially during recruiting for private equity roles.

If your discussions with the team have left a positive impression, it’s likely that the specific group you’ll be joining has a good culture. However, be prepared for a demanding workload, as this is a consistent theme across Jefferies.

Hey- I was wondering how you experience has been so far? Also, do you remember how much time passed before you heard back after your first interview with someone from the team?
