Job shadowing?

I am a high school junior who has become interested in the financial world, specifically investment banking, and had a question about job shadowing. Luckily enough my family is close with a couple MD’s at BB and boutique banks, and i was wondering if job shadowing one of them would be helpful experience and help me show my interest in finance when applying to college.

I don’t think colleges would care unless it’s a more substantial project l/internship. However, seems like it would be great to get a better understanding of the industry and build a network for recruiting once you’re in college.

honestly, This MD is really close to my family so i could probably ask to learn from an analyst/associate, maybe even stay to shadow for a week-two weeks to get more deal exposure. But i feel really out of place doing this, I feel that, if that MD does let me, everyone will fine me a nuisance etc. Am i wrong to feel this way?

Two things:

  1. Don’t think about being a nuisance. Be a self advocate and realize that your family friend is the boss
  1. That being said, do some prep so you’re not going in blind (I’d suggest the public comps and DCF chapters of rosenbaum and pearl and then watch a couple YouTube videos going over actual implementations). If you show sincere interest, it’s much less likely that you’ll come off as a pain
