J.P. Morgan announces bonuses (for associates and higher) on January 21.  Teams in Asia are beginning to get their numbers as I post this.  Good luck everyone!  Let's hope all the comments below me aren't salty...

Not impressed.

Level: Associate 1 -> Associate 2
Base: $175k -> $200k
Bonus: $140k (80% cash / 20% stock)
Rating: Top of class

Someone wanna explain the logic to me of:

1) BBs paying low bonuses when, relatively speaking, wouldn't be super material to make people (somewhat) happy. Is more comp getting taken by seniors in comparison to the past (rather than banks reducing fee pool takehome for groups)?

2) Working at a BB for anything other than analyst reps? Not to pile on but associate comp at most MMs clearing this. 20% stock bonus 😂😂

This is a great question. For part 1, I think it’s just greed. The bank or the MDs have the money to give everyone an extra $50k of comp to boost morale, but they choose not to out of greed.

For your second question, 100% correct. It only makes sense to be at a BB if you’re an analyst, or a D/MD. Everyone in the middle gets paid like trash. VPs at BBs frequently receive lower bonuses than associate 2s at some MMs

Disappointed

Level: Associate 1 -> Associate 2
Base: $175k -> $200k
Bonus: $135k (80% cash / 20% stock)
Rating: top performer

Sharing a non IB bonus data point. Private Bank, Single Coverage Banker/Advisor

Top performer, comp is dependent on production.

Sr. Associate 3

TC - $475k

Base - $170k

Bonus - $305k (75% Cash, 25% stock)

Promotion to VP, Salary increase to $285k. This is by no means typical and the range of outcomes varies significantly. It's not *sexy* but I leave the office at 5:15 most days.
