CSAS is not restructuring, not really client facing either. Very quant focused, I think most of the senior people in the group are finance phd types. They deal with optimal subsidiary capital structure, tax effective repatriation, balance sheet management...that type of thing.

One of the busiest groups right now by far. I would think of them somewhat like restructuring's product group esp. if there are capital structure issues involved, which is always the case in bkruptcies. Other than being on restructuring assignments, they get to see balance sheet issues like the above poster said, and also weigh in whenever the industry teams need cap structure expertise. Above poster is right, that its not very client-facing - mostly execution as opposed to pitching, which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it, but usually good as a jr-banker. Pretty unique group on the street, relatively few layoffs and very good exit ops from what I heard from last year's analyst class. PM me for more specific info.

The guys that run the group are all M&A veterans who've had pretty extensive/impressive careers. I don't think there are many (if any) PHDs (at least at sr. levels)...
