Just failed corporate finance exam

Jr at a target school and received a top MM SA offer for this summer right before the start of the semester. Since then, my motivation has gone to shit. I haven’t done much in terms of school this semester i had been coasting not caring but this was a complete wake up call for me. I have never flat out failed an exam. Unsure of what to do now. I am really worried about my grade. I guess my question is how much do grades matter from here on out? What should i shoot to maintain if i want to potentially go for an MBA someday. Still have first semester junior year to graduation left.

Try to keep your GPA around a 3.7, that means putting as little effort in as possible and enjoying your college years while also doing enough to get there. Life is a balancing act consisting of minuscule trade-offs here and there. Knowing the difference is key. Now, my approach in college was that if I projected a C+ or worse, I'd drop the class and put in the work to get an A the semester after (Ws in your transcript are less irrelevant; unless you dropped that same class multiple times - in which case, assumptions might arise)GPA does matter after graduation, but not to the extent some believe. It matters for PE recruiting and for B-school. In both cases, more holistic assessments occur simultaneously, that is, GPA won't be looked at as a stand-alone data point. Other things (deal experience and technical skills for PE; leadership skills, involvement and accomplishments for B-school) are also factored into the assessment. With that being said, just pause, relax, and try again. A bad grade it is, if incurred, not the end of the world, if avoidable, an even lesser concern.

EDIT: Added more context to some of my previous points.
