LinkedIn Networking vs. Cold Emailing

Monkeys,

I'm currently a Sophomore from a non-target school. I've been using only LinkedIn to network with Analysts and Associates so far and have gotten a few phone calls. I've been reading a few different posts on here about these topics and I have some questions myself.

I've seen mixed reviews about cold emailing and attaching your resume or not - all seems to go either way, so might as well go with what you prefer to use as your strategy. I really don't want to ruin my chances here by doing something stupid or annoying.

However, since I did get some emails from people at BBs through LinkedIn, I wanted to know:

  1. Should I use the same email format to guess emails and cold email people who haven't responded on LinkedIn, or could they see this as an annoyance.

  2. Is there a preference between seniority groups. For example, would an associate or VP be more likely to respond to an email rather than a LinkedIn message.

  3. Is it a bad idea to talk to Associates before speaking to Analysts? In some cases, only Associates have gotten back to me and have been more responsive than Analysts.

  4. Any thoughts on attaching your resume to a LinkedIn message?

  5. If I've talked to one person already, is it a good idea to name drop Analysts or Associates in LinkedIn messages?
