M&A landscape / ranking in the Netherlands

Hi everyone!

I’m a Finance master’s student currently looking for an internship in Amsterdam. To help with this, I’m exploring the M&A landscape in the Netherlands and I’m really curious about how different firms are positioned in the market. I’m especially interested in understanding which firms are considered the most elite or hardest to get into.

I’m looking for insights on various types of firms involved in M&A here, including:

*Investment banks, both Dutch as the international ones. • M&A boutiques • Big 4 M&A teams

I’m particularly keen to know how these firms rank in terms of deal volume, prestige, and career opportunities. If any of you have experience or knowledge about the M&A scene in the Netherlands, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Personal experiences, anecdotal evidence, or even just general perceptions would be super helpful!

Thanks a lot for your help!

Not dutch, but have worked at a UMM PE firm in the Benelux team as an intern, so take it with a grain of salt.
In terms of banks, its the usual suspects of the BB (+Deutsche Bank if you dont count them as a BB). What was more suprising was how strong ING is, always hitting it out of the park in league tables (most of the time first or second to Morgan Stanley). As far as boutiques, Jefferies and Lazard seemed to be quite respected and active. Rothschild covers the NL with a team from London, not Amsterdam. However, they were nonetheless active and a good name. Those were the Banks/ Boutiques i dealt with the most/ seen the most decks fly around. If i forgot one, i will edit the comment.

Hope that helps at least a little bit.
