Made a mistake - worried about trustworthiness

Hello all,

I was issued a check for one of my expenses, and when depositing it I accidentally typed in $5000 instead of $1000 as written on the check. (Long day, and I was on an auto-pilot mode going through the motions).

I work for a small regional boutique firm and things are very transparent, and I am freaking out about this as the money is pending in my account. Will my bank fix it to the correct amount? And will the person that wrote me the check be notified? I really do not want to hurt my reputation as it would look shady or worse, that I can't be trusted with simple tasks.

If the check is for $1k and you said $5k when depositing it, the bank won't let you deposit it and it should get kicked back to you to fix

Geez dumbass, just call your fucking bank and tell them what happened or go to a local branch of your bank and fix it - that way, they don't escalate it further and notify your firm. Its really not that hard to do. Pick up the damn phone and dial the customer service number of your shitty bank. We all make mistakes, no one will think any less of you and if they somehow find out later, just tell them you've fixed the problem by contacting your bank and they should forget about it after lunch. If they're still bitching about it after you've fixed it, you might not want to work for them. Fuck them and Lateral at that point. There's bigger things to worry about.
