Advanced math is useful as it’ll make you comfortable with numbers. IB doesn’t have complex math but does have raw P&L statements more often than not riddled with accounting errors especially if you work in the lower middle market sector. So exposure to math will make you “see” how the numbers flow. Advanced math is definitely not a necessity but will give you an edge in being a better analyst / associate.

 

IB is Excel doing the math for you and is quite simple. Since you are advising NFP's breaking out Black Scholes has little meaning lol. That said high level math is used in more quant type roles that often require graduate degrees. All of them require programming proficiency tho.
