I try to be as helpful as I can generally, but man this is some seriously lazy shit.

Go dig up a mining primer (there are tons you can find on here or Google) to learn value methods. The way you value explo vs. developer vs. producing assets vary, as does the metric based on metal. Nuances around standalone processors vs. producers vs. integrated.

Trends also depend on metal and what is happening varies based on whether you're looking at base or precious. Even within base, shit is all over the place. Battery is a completely different universe.

You really have your work cut out for you. Get grinding

For technicals it will be helpful to know the metals & mining specific terms. All-in sustaining cost, all-in costs, C1 cash cost, reserves and resources. Some basic geology/mineral processing knowledge will be helpful.

Sector trends: It depends. The very very basic ones will be that precious metals are doing well because of inflation, and battery metals demand will be crazy high. There is consolidation of major gold producers. ESG is a big one as well. Teck wants to sell off their coal assets in part because of a desire to become more sustainable, Cobre Panama is another good example. In general geopolitical risk is always there, because like oil you cannot change the global geology. We saw what the Russia Ukraine conflict did to oil, that can happen with copper in South America, cobalt in central Africa, etc.

Happy to send you a message, if you’d like. Which geographic area is this for?

Hi thanks so much for this! super helpful to get some direction from the outset.

Would be really great if you could send a message its for EMEA

Hi I have an interview for S&P global - Analyst (Mine Economics) . Idon't have direct odelling experience but currently studying valuation methods through masters degree (wouldn't say I could easily put together a model at all though but I know they said they can provide training). As a geologist, what kind of questions do you think they will ask me about my experience that will be directly relevant to the role.
