Missed SA 2021. What Now?

Yes I know, another college kid probably overreacting, but some advice from strangers would be incredibly helpful right now.

I am a junior transfer at a top 25/30 graduating in Fall 2021. I transferred in last fall and began networking across the finance world - focusing primarily on IB industry groups. I have a decent resume from what I've heard, but it definitely doesn't follow the typical IB prospect. In short, 3.8 GPA, former D1 athlete, non-profit co-founder, and this past summer I interned at Private REIT. I don't have too much work experience, because before last year my life was primarily focused on athletics. I gained some decent traction across multiple BB banks through university alumni, talking to multiple people every week in the summer, and I thought everything was going well. Going into the fall, I did not get a single first-round interview. What happened?

I realize that COVID has played a major role in recruiting this year, so I should not be too shook up about not getting a glorious SA offer, but what should I do now? I have been thinking about continuing with CRE for another summer and transitioning into a REGL group full-time postgrad. I have also been thinking about sending my resume to every small IB boutique I come across for this summer, and then transitioning into a larger bank postgrad.

I guess the question I am asking is: is it realistic to be able to land an offer at an EB/BB full-time after having only CRE internships undergrad? If so, how do I maintain these recruiting relationships for another year, with my contacts knowing that I could not land anything for this summer?
