MM to BB/EB as a VP

I am a VP at a known middle-market firm, working in a leading coverage group. What are my chances to lateral to a BB/EB? Would appreciate senior input, as I am not actively looking but want to understand longer-term career optionality.

CS is hiring across the board to fill holes from exodus. Hires have been mixed bag, e.g. from Laz, CenterviewCiti while also from BNP Paribas, middle market shops, etc. so there is definitely opportunity for you. My group just hired a senior associate from a small regional (but heard of) industry-specific boutique

would be a good way to get your foot in the door upstream if you don't have luck elsewhere. Based on the new hires we've made I think there will be some momentum in the years ahead, but just be aware of the situation you're walking into (lot of departures, low morale, deal flow softened… this is a complete rebuild with upward potential and a great legacy brand but has risk attached for sure).

if you’re going to look at CS, I would prioritize the groups that are most important to the firm (sponsors, lev fin, M&A, tech, healthcare, industrials) as some capital will be pulled out of the IB in years to come and you don’t want to be caught in a downsizing group (if I had to guess, FIG comes to mind)
