It might be typical middle, but I was told top bucket, and my performance rating for impact was “Exceptional” (the “E” in E / S / S).

That’s the confusing part. Maybe others have better insights.

Is this UK? US analyst salary starts at 110k and they got their bonuses 6 months ago. Theres another poster above saying base 150k base for associate. Can’t be IBD. IBD is 175k starting everywhere

Not yet... BofA will likely always be at the bottom in terms of comp. The numbers for MS (at least on this thread) aren't great, but they are still higher than BofA. If people at MS are really upset and actually looking to leave, good chance BofA folks will move there and fill those seats lol I am actually considering it myself - better pay (yes, you read that right), better deals and WLB is probably similar.

Yes because they paid low the last 2 years they pay the lowest forever and always

did MS over hire or something? these are like bottom of street numbers

Associate 1
Base went from 175k to 225k
Bonus: 130k
Coverage group

VP1 comp (VP2 this year)

Base: $275

Bonus: $235 (~$25k stock)

Bucket: they never explicitly tell you, but I assume top

IBD

You're a fool to stay at a bulge bracket after the associate 2 year. The comp apparently sucks and a good chunk is paid out in stock.

The EBs are in a separate industry from a comp perspective

There's a reason for that though - it's a very tough gig being an MD at an EB without credit / S&T / research support.  So it's not like you can spend two years at BB and then lateral to EB and enjoy much higher comp with no risk.  There's a lot bigger of a safety cushion for seniors at BBs, you can make a decent living off just capital markets revenue.

Based off my older mentors it seems much easier to build a client book at a BB and rise to MD (with support from the S&T/ER/capital markets infrastructure) than at an EB, where clients are protected by more senior MDs and there's no cross-sell opportunities where you can make yourself known to potential clients.

Ideal IB career path seems to be making it to at least D, if not MD at a BB then moving to an EB with a nice guarantee + higher share of economics
