I interviewed for their Summer Analyst Program this past spring, so the information might be a bit different for FT. Basically, MSIM has a lot of different teams under Investment Management, and there are "front office" and "back office" roles (someone in MSIM used these exact terms). Some examples of back-office include operations, data, and strategic initiatives (names might have changed since I last spoke to them). Front-office investing roles include real estate, fixed income, private equity (a lot of co-investments), etc. It sounds confusing because the job title includes "investment", but you may not even be in an investing role. It's a good idea to know which team you'll get placed under because you can have very different experiences across teams. Summer Analyst candidates were given a generalist offer, and I think you rotate across 3 teams throughout the summer. Again, this is just information that I received that could change in the future, so anyone can feel free to hop in with updated information.

OP here greatly appreciate the info. I just did the hirevue and waiting for next steps. Also I wasn’t able to select specific groups/roles when I applied. We will see :)
