MSF vs MBA from a non-target for free will it help break into IB

Hi fellow chimps,

I’ve been following WSO and have received so much value to what all the possibilities are in Finance that I never knew possible, so first off I would like to thank anyone who’s contributed to the community.
My current situation is working a Corporate Finance job for a hospital’s research division. I manage about 70 million in federal grants and create proposals to win more federal funds for medical research. With this job I have the opportunity to go to the University of Miami and get a degree free of charge. My question is despite everyone in the forum that recommends crushing the GMAT and going to a top tier MBA program I can’t turn down a free MBA. The only true cost would be the time investment. Leaving work to do another program elsewhere wouldn’t be an option for me.

My question being even though University of Miami isn’t a target school would it be worthwhile to get a free MBA or a MSF degree if I wanted to angle towards a job in IB or PE in the future? Ideally in healthcare.

Thanks for any feedback.
