Need Advice to go from Canada to NYC (heres my short story)

Hey guys,

Im graduating in 2022 at a target University (3.75 GPA) and in the Winter I am working at a IB boutique shop (Non-elite) and in the summer I will be working at an elite PE shop.

My long-term objective: PE in NYC

I have a rough idea of what sort of path I should take to accomplish this long-term objective, let me know what you think please.

1) Full-Time IB at Elite Boutique or Big Bank in TO (4-6 yrs) -> IB NYC -> PE NYC 2) Elite Boutique or Big Bank IB Internship next summer -> Take a shot at a NYC internship -> secure offer

Plan 1 seems more reasonable and realistic, however, what do you guys think the most optimal approach is? Feel free to add in an option.

I don’t mind the battle.

Would you approach it differently if getting into an American bank in TO was not possible (say i.e. RBC, BMO, Canaccord)?

I’ve seen a lot of people transition from RBC and BMO to PE in New York. Not too sure about Canaccord. I know it’s a good shop in Toronto but not too sure how it stacks up for PE recruitment.
