I currently work in a big 4 transactions group, specifically doing mergers and acquisitions consulting, about a year out of undergrad. I have significant F50 deal experience in all phases of a transaction (pre-sign to post close). Most of what my group does is aligned to PMO and functional workstreams but I’ve been lucky enough to mostly be with Corp dev clients. Working with Corp dev has led want to pursuit a lateral to IB to be on the lead advisory side of m&a. After applying, I have a few interviews.
Here’s my problem: as a consultant, my day is not spent do modeling, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t know how. I take advantage of all financial modeling courses I can at my firm, but my application has been zero because it’s not what we do. I believe consulting has taught me the skills to prepare client presentations and act as a trusted strategic advisor. And I have real $1B+ deal experience. So what is it going to take to convince a bank to trust that I’d be able to do the job and look past my lack of modeling?
When you say M&A consulting, how much of that is FDD or CDD?
