Networking asking connections for internships

I am a freshman in college and would love to have an internship this summer and a lot of my friends parents work in the big banks where I live Citigroup, Jp Morgan, Goldman. But how do I ask them or their parents for an internship and display that I will really work hard and they won't regret helping me out? Any advice would be appreciated thanks

If you are particularly close with one of your friends' parents, shoot them an email directly. Tell them you are interested in finance, and would like to ask them a few questions. Tell them you'd love to speak over the phone, although you understand their busy schedule and email would be fine too. See if you get any bites there.

If you aren't close to any of your friends' parents, it might be a little more difficult. You know your friends better than we do, so you'll probably be able to figure out how to handle it. A subtle way to go about it might be to ask your friend if his mom/dad might be able to answer a few questions for you about working in finance.

Freshman summer is still really early though; travel if you can.

Just my two cents.

Good luck!

At the banks you listed, the internship prgrams, especially those in IBD, are very formalized. Thus, they will be looking primarly for Juniors, and have a structured interview process. That doesn't mean landing a internship is impossible, but you will most likely either need to have your contact forward your resume along directly to the recruiter/person hiring, in order to bypass the automatic screening OR be hired by your contact directly (most likely to work in their group)
