No plans for 10 months until IB job starts

Hi guys, basically I have an internship this summer but after that I’d have to wait until July 2024 before my full time job starts at the same Top IB firm.

Im not sure what to do for this 10 month period in between. What’s the best way I can maximise my time and make the most use of it?

Should I start a startup? take the CFA? Look for off cycle internships?

Any advice would be great!
Should I

Lol a lot can happen between now and then. You don’t have a full time offer and definitely don’t have that mentality going into the internship

Bro I just wanted some advice on what you would do in my position. In what way did I make it like a brag? Literally wanted to know what you guys with more experience than me would advice

Are you eligible to do this / does your firm know? Knew someone who did this and HR pulled the FT offer after the internship saying he didn't graduate within the right timeframe. If you haven't checked with HR, do so now... you may need to extend grad until December

That said if your firm is fine with it I would travel for at least 6 of the months. Get a cool, low key job like bartending on a yacht in the Mediterranean or teaching English part time somewhere interesting. A CFA is totally useless in IB or PE and I think getting more internships heading into IB is a waste of time. You won't have this time again so do a once in a lifetime experience

No he graduated in spring before the internship, was planning on taking the year off, and then received the FT offer and was later deemed ineligible by HR because he wasn't within the grad dates specified (usually Dec - June before the internship). Campus recruiting is weirdly strict about that type of thing. Same reason someone 1 year into a FT job can't try and get a campus recruiting FT offer.

Again I would run this by HR. Maybe they are fine with it, but get it in writing. Lots of people in your situation do an extra semester with 1 or 2 classes or a masters degree because you do technically need to graduate within a set range of time.

Oh wow I see, thank you for the insight because I was planning on not doing my masters year and just waiting until FT but I will definitely let them know. I'm just a bit scared that if I say that they might rescind my offer for the internship

No they won't definitely rescind the internship over you asking. I would say something like you are excited for the internship but are ahead on credits and considering graduating early, either in Spring 20XX or December 20XX. You see that the job description requires you to graduate between Dec and June, would it be okay for a potential FT offer if you graduate in Spring 20xx, or do you need to wait until December / consider a masters degree to be eligible to join that class.

They very well may say yes but one of those things you should definitely get a written okay on

Literally no benefit to starting early. You won't get a pro-rated bonus and you'll still have to go to training with everyone else.  Enjoy the F out of your limited freedom.  Travel the entire world and go broke, but just definitely don't start early.  If you intend to stay in finance for any amount of time, there's never an opportunity like you have to take more than 2+ weeks off away from the job.  Suck it in, embrace it, and feel no remorse.  You'll never have such a lack of responsibilities / ability to galivant for the rest of your (financial career) life

I graduated in spring before internship. I made sure HR knew though before going in. I got a FT return, other buddy in intern class wasn't as clear and did not, but I think it was more so on the economy for not getting a return.

No so basically I am in the Uk and will be working in London. I am in an integrated masters so that’s 4 years of undergrad and then optional final year which is my masters year. I have decided to withdraw from my masters and graduate in June with my undergrad
