Am attending a top ranked target school (non-ivy, but comparable). IB firms regularly come to recruit from the school. However, a fifth of our graduating class are Economics majors, so would I be looked upon unfavorably if I were not, provided I have competive GPA from an alternate major?
Am willing to major in Econ wholeheartedly, but just curious!

If you're at a top target school you could major in Victorian-Era Ass-Eating with a Minor in Post-Hardcore Dreamfunk and still get a job in banking as long as you demonstrate yourself to be sharp, likable, and hardworking.

Honest question, but why are you majoring in biology if you want to work in finance?
I'd guess your major isn't english, considering you misspelled "competitive."
If you read the post, you would be proven correct.
Regardless of where you got to school, I would recommend pursing Math / Econ / Finance or a combination of those.
Your differentiating factor shouldn't be to pick a different major. Grow yourself throughout your college tenure, start a club / grow an idea / become passionate about something / play sports / etc. and then communicate that on your CV.
FinancelsWacc Would any of the stated majors be looked upon more favorably? My school only offers Math, Stats, and Econ (no finance). I plan on doing Biology as my first major and double majoring in either Econ/Math/Stats.
Also, what exactly do you mean by my differentiating factor shouldn't be a different major than Econ? Do you just mean that I should pursue other activities that would make me differentiable, beyond just counting on my major?
Based on your prior comments it seems as though you are deadest on Bio + One of the above.
Now, if you were recruiting for S&T I would say math would be looked upon more favorably without a doubt.
For straight up IBD I would say Econ would be more favorable, though I would argue a candidate with a killer Math gpa + market / accounting / finance knowledge would be stronger than any average econ major.
Regardless, you will undoubtedly need an amazing story as to why you are doing a Biology major. If you don't blend it with your econ / math curriculum from a BUSINESS perspective, odds are the Bio major may actually hurt you.
I honestly see no value in a bio major. There is a reason a lot of top performers / med school candidates do UG majors of Chemical Engineering / Biomedical engineering / etc. If med school doesn't work out then those engineers can still get killer jobs. A straight Bio major will end up doing lab work forever or teach middle school Bio... Really think about what you want to leverage this major for. If it's just a cool interest you should just take minor classes in it.
Your major doesn't matter at a target bro as long as you have good grades and can hold a convo.
