Offer getting rescinded?

I applied to an “analyst/associate” position at a MM bank and got a verbal offer for a senior analyst position but had inquired about whether I could be considered for an associate role since it seems that the position was considering for either analyst or associate.

Since my inquiry 2 days ago, I have not received any communication from the team or recruiter from the MM bank.

Is it likely that my offer is being rescinded? Do banks rescind offers just for trying to negotiate?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's unlikely that your offer is being rescinded solely because you inquired about being considered for an associate role. However, there are cases where offers have been rescinded due to negotiation attempts, especially if the process is perceived as overly aggressive or if it creates friction with the hiring team. For example, in one WSO thread, a user shared that their offer was rescinded after negotiating salary because the MD felt it was a bad start to the working relationship.

In your case, the lack of communication for two days might not necessarily indicate a rescinded offer. It could simply be that the team or recruiter is taking time to evaluate your request or discuss internally. To avoid any misunderstandings, consider following up politely with the recruiter to check on the status of your offer and express your continued enthusiasm for the role. Keep the tone professional and collaborative to maintain a positive impression.
