O&G PE Recruiting Advice

Houston IB analyst interested in offcycle PE recruiting for upstream funds. Have specific questions below but also am grateful for any general info or advice.

1. Model tests/ Case studies - do these follow traditional LBO format or is it more upstream diligence/NAV/JV structuring exercises as LBOs don’t seem commonplace. Want to prep efficiently and not pour hours into LBO courses for it to not matter.

2. Approach - I have decent head hunter traffic but is it worth doing the IB style cold calls?

3. Funds - Any insight into 2023 Summer or later is appreciated. Not a MF contender & somewhat value WLB if those considerations help.
