Online Therapist

Have any of you guys used an online therapist? I know this should be in IB but I think it could be helpful for a lot of us. I’ve been feeling apathy since Sunday. Every time I get a deliverable I feel like quitting or logging off and going to sleep. Motivation went to -10. This happens a lot to me and I want to talk it over with someone. I talked to a second year im close with and broke into tears and I couldn’t help it /stop.

Never been quite a fan of therapy, always felt like it was money down the drain just for a yes-man. Certainly not always the case but that's my experience. Was on and off with it for a while, officially stopped ~6 months ago. Doing it online only exacerbated the whole yes-man issue for me. But some people need that and maybe it will help you. I personally hate hearing that "I'm doing great" or that someone is "proud of how far I've come" -- it encourages my brain to pick out everything that could/should be better than it is. However, I've recently taken quite a liking to meditation which haw a far more therapeutic effect on me than actual therapy ever did. All just my own experience

Regarding therapists, this is something you should talk to your Primary Care about and being referred to a specialist.  Therapy will only work when the individual only wants to succeed.  You can't do it with one foot in or have attitudes of being against it.  Keep an open mind and put your 100% effort into it, as this is for you, your own personal improvement.  I would not use an online therapist unless it is something your doctor provided.

I posted a reply to a thread about relaxation techniques.  Practice diaphragmatic breathing and cut down the caffeine.  Warm baths/showers does this too as well.  Feel free to PM me.

If you can find one in your city, I would highly recommend looking for a therapist/therapy practice that focuses on young adults/professionals that are high achieving and dealing with depression and anxiety. They're not going to "good job" you or tell you to quit your job - they're going to help you with where you are.

I found mine after attending a workshop they did. I know NYC, SF, Dallas all have to have a practice like mine - maybe they offer coaching or workshops as well? You could always look for a recommendation from a local university/college or just calling and asking what their practice focuses on/who their clientele is. My therapist/her coworkers aren't quiet about having a niche and I like that the client base is similar to me.

I have been talking to my therapist since day 1 in banking. I’m international so mine is back in my home country. However, your firm should have employee resources and some Counselling should be free. Even if it is not, it is definitely worth the money. You wouldn’t want to dump this shit on other people and ruin your relationships or even worse, be bitter all the time because banking could do that to you

I started therapy last spring right after COVID began. I had a couple initial meetings in person before COVID but all of treatment was online. Twice a week for a few months, then once a week/every other week for the rest. It changed my life and allowed me to be a much happier person. This was for OCD/anxiety. I would highly recommend at least trying it. Keep in mind every therapist might not be a great match, but you can always switch if you figure out what doesn't work.
