Overlooked for Summer Analyst program- What's next?

I'm from a target school, with mediocre grades, but have been overlooked for most summer analyst programs. I'm still looking for internships (ie doostang), but it looks bleak. Any advice on how to spend the summer? I'd have no problem going unpaid, if there's the opportunity for good experience.

Call up alumni and start getting to know them. If you gauge that you are hitting it off, inquire about employment opportunities. If there aren't any, then let them know you'd be willing to work for free (NEVER open with the fact that you are willing to work for free). Don't get discouraged. Networking is hard work and it sometimes takes several conversations to develop a relationship. The biggest thing is to not seem like some desperate kid that is just hitting them up for a job. You should be genuinely interested in getting to know them.

Keep on it and you never know when something might open up.

if you're willing to work for free start calling boutiques.

Boutiques are probably your best bet for my suggested strategy.
