Yeah. My shop is this way. Was sold a “not a face-culture firm” “excellent WLB with easy access to PTO” and “protected saturdays” all of it is a load of bullshit.

Wanna leave at 6 because you have a slow day? Good one. Wanna leave after dinner and work from home? Be prepared for passive aggressive comments. Wanna take a week vacation? Prepare to be nicely scolded. Incredibly toxic

Same with my firm. I almost spit my coffee out when I was going through the intern preview day deck and saw “no face-time culture”. Nothing could be further from the truth. I’ve never worked with a more passive aggressive group of people in my life.

They were all nerds in high school and college, and like to abuse the little power they finally have.

Lol anytime I leave before 7:00PM my VP makes sure to loudly say "Hey X, taking a half day today?"

He's the kind of guy that has zero friends or respect in his personal life and seems to have it out for anyone who appears to have been a jock / frat star / cool kid in college or high school.

Like, I'm pretty sure he actively gets pissed off when an Associate he doesn't like gets complimented by one of the Partners/Principals, even if the Associate truly did a great job on something.

It's honestly just a pathetic cycle of people who probably started out supportive and friendly getting grinded down to a bitter nub by their superiors and then doing the exact same shit to people beneath them.

I'll tell you one thing. If I ever make VP I will have literally zero desire to ever say some stupid shit like "Hey bro, taking a half day?" to someone who has worked 80+ hours for me every week for a year straight. I just can't fathom anyone who isn't an abject loser that hates their life taking up this type of attitude with their own support team.
