Pets in IB
How accommodating are bulge brackets to mild mannered pets? If I have my own office, and it never leaves the office, am I allowed to keep a cat there? Assume I bring it home with me each day and it has a litter box and bed under my desk.
Note: It does bite, but only if it feels threatened or if you wear perfume/cologne
Though on paper banks say they consider veterans diversity, in practice HR does not exactly treat it the same (at least at my bank, can't speak for others). HR doesn't say "we want xx number/percent vets in this class" the way they do with other diverse groups. And there aren't lower standards. Vets are on the same recruiting timeline, same interviews and technicals as everyone else and they're evaluated against the rest of the applicants.
Instead, your perceived "huge boost in recruiting" is due more to the fact that most banks/bankers view a military experience as highly relevant to being a IB. The recruiting advantage is due mostly to the fact that a) veteran resumes are generally more interesting than 95% of the other MBA candidates, and b) most importantly, the veterans at the bank tend to look out for the veteran candidates. The halo-effect of being a vet mostly comes from that support you get from other ex-military at the bank. You're not going to get a ton of mileage with the mostly U.S. soldiers, sailors and marines at a bank because you did a short stint of compulsory service in Turkey
As you pointed out, differs from bank to bank, but I would call Goldman's pre-MBA program a huge advantage
You may have luck networking with bankers who had compulsory military experience in their country (SK/Israel/Singapore). If you look around on LinkedIn, you will find several at NYC banks.
Agree with the above. Some guys who interview you will just give you points cause they think it’s cool. At my bank I reached out to some new analysts who were IDF and Singapore military. While it’s definitely a stronger connection if it’s the same country, you still have more in common with someone who served regardless the country
If you told me that you paid to get out of military duty then I would assume that you are a coward and your resume would go in the trash.
This is why I usually send a digital copy
In case you weren't aware - outlook has a trash folder as well, which is where your resume belongs you coward.
I just have two pet pebbles. They’re named Blackstone and BlackRock.
I can confirm that Centerview in NYC allows people to bring their dogs and cats to the office. Granted they have to be well trained, small, and quiet. I’ve never seen an analyst bring a pet into the office but I’ve definitely seen a couple of senior bankers bring their pets on occasion.
Da F Is going on in this thread.
initially i read this as ‘Pests in IB’ and thought about my director and a recent A2A
Then I see it’s actually Pets.
but when I open the thread it’s all about vets.
what’s even going on
Don’t worry, you’re not a pest
