Phone Interview with Harris Williams and Company

I have a phone interview with Harris Williams. I am wondering if anyone has been through their interview process that might have some advice. What is their dealflow like? How is the initial phone interview?

Any advice would help!

What was the interview like? I have a phone interview coming with a firm as well, just wanted to see what typical phone interviews are like.

Did you hear back from your phone interview yet? I had mine and was wondering how long does it typically take for them to get back to you after a phone screening.

09gradHW Md's always go to bat for their analysts. come on guys.
I truly don't understand why you would add this. What was the point of the 'come on guys' addition anyway? I also don't see how anyone anywhere could construe this as a bad thing...Just makes no sense that every time there is a HW thread people seem to think this contribution is necessary.

it's sarcasm based on this board's group-think about HW. your reading comprehension hasn't kept up with your WSO evolution status, my "almost human" friend.

Don't expect to hear back for at least a week. Also, many decisions tend to get made on either Mondays or Fridays as deal work takes precedent to administrative type stuff. Then you need to allow for some time for them to act on the decisions.

For a summer analyst position, you really want to be "yourself." The bank isn't looking for a superstar finance whiz that just completed his first semester of junior year, it wants someone who is smart, hardworking, and generally "cool." Display these characteristics and you'll be all set.

I interviewed with Harris Williams for a full time gig. Not sure if it was just the group I interviewed with but make sure to let them think they are your #1 priority. They asked me back to a second round which I couldn't make b/c I had another final round already scheduled. They dropped me from the process no without any kind of concession whatsoever.

First round was a lot of fit - why do u want to do ibanking, and focused also on why harris williams - why MM, etc. didnt get any hard technical on this round. have good questions for them. also be aware that they expect their analysts to move into PE afterwards. They pride themselves on the 100% placement they have of their fulltime analysts into PE shops and it helps them develop relationships with the PE shops...

harris williams is taking applications through our career center here. can anybody give me a little information on them?

how are they ranked based on other MM firms? I ask that mainly because I haven't gotten any interviews with BB firms because of my low gpa but so I would like to find an MM that I have a chance at

Thanks

Harris Williams is a top firm within the middle market. Its reputation is well known throughout the financial services industry. However, your friends who aren't in finance are unlikely to recognize the name. If your GPA is low enough that you can't even get an interview at BBs, you're probably not going to have much success with Harris Williams, Houlihan Lokey, and the likes.

HW is a good bank, esp if you want to go into MM PE. And yea, what CompBanker said.... I would not look at them as some alternate to a BB. They are small enough that they can be picky and look for the best. The culture is laid back, MDs and analysts are all very cool. No ties, although the hours are similar to a bank in NY I believe (work on live deals majority of time).

^I feel confident in saying the above, just got back from final rounds

No direct experience with lateral as I am a SA candidate but I have had significant interaction with HW and Patricia (which I am assuming you are talking to her) She is very nice and pleasant to talk to. I doubt that she will grill you or anything and just wants to talk.

HW is a great place and the people there are extremely friendly!

Patricia reached out to me as well but we haven't set up a time to talk to or anything. So was it essentially a phone screen at first? Have you set up a phone interview? I'm at a "target" but not one where they recruit on campus.

Thanks. Just had the phone call. It was not with Patricia but the interviewer was nice and friendly... Good luck with the SA process!

I'm grateful that I have two middle fingers, I only wish I had more.
