Previous trading experience bad for applying to IBanks?
There was a thread in the trading section where one member thought a rejection of an interview was because he had prior trading experience. The reason behind this was that the prop firm wanted to mold the philosophy into someone fresh. However, this is for prop firms and I can see the relevance. However, would the same apply for banks such as Goldman, MS, JP, Citi, etc...on a trading desk?
wait...so a prop firm might reject someone because they have trading experience? isn't that a great way of showing that one is interested in the financial markets and what not?
Someone has been watching a bit too much Boiler Room. Honestly, I find this hard to believe. However, I will say that people with prior experience are held to a much higher standard than others. If you've been doing something for years or even months and haven't learned a lot, that is a worse sign than someone who has no experience at all.
