Purdue Krannert School of Management Reputation

How is the reputation of Purdue's Krannert? In overall business and in Investment Banking? Is it a reputable business school to employers overall?

Purdue as a whole is a respectable institution but is known for its engineering programs. Engineering dominates the campus in both a literal, physical sense and in recruiting. Krannert is OK terms of reputation in non-high finance job placement. They have good Agribusiness programs and supply chain/logistics.

In terms of banking, Purdue is in the bottom half of Big-10 IB placements as they don't have a banking program like Kelley IBW, OSU Futures, etc. If you want IB, Purdue is not a great option, even far worse schools with lower admittance standards like Iowa Tippie place better in banking. However there are a couple of alums sprinkled around the street here and there. Crazy thing is tho, a lot of those alums (most) were engineers at one point...

Purdue has great overall name brand recognition. However, in Chicago/upper mid west area Purdue is competing against:

The University of Chicago

Notre Dame

Ohio State

Northwestern

The University of Michigan

Indiana University

The University of Minnesota.

These schools pull kids to New York, Chicago, St Louis, and Minneapolis. I am sure if you want to work in Cincinnati or Louisville it would be a good investment.

However, I do not think any substantial degree from Purdue will ever hurt anyone. The upper Midwest just has crazy good schools.

I'll chime in as well - the school is definitely a non-target. There's a huge discrepancy between the amount of attention that STEM majors get from employers versus Krannert.

They even canceled their MBA program because there was a huge decrease in the number of applicants...which goes to show that even Purdue's administration as a whole doesn't really care about the business school.

Krannert is a MUCH smaller business school than maybe any other big10, which is part of why they are not as well represented in IB. That said, if you're a high performer it can be a great place to stand out. Places well into consulting and top FLDPs (on campus) but requires you to put in the requisite work. Purdue is at it's core a top STEM/engineering school and the business school has historically not been an area of investment (now cancelled FT MBA). The UG business school is definitely on the rise, embracing the STEM-focus of the broader school and adding major/minors in Data Science/Analytics, Engineering (minor), etc. Also the school is rigorous and has zero concept of grade inflation, also making it harder to get IB as a nontarget. Don't want to hear the Kelley simps... I went to high school with a bunch of them that are in total dead-end jobs.

TLDR: going to krannert will not lower your ceiling, but the floor is low

- Purdue grad who fared well post-grad.. would do it again
