Purdue Representation in Chicago
Hey WSO,
Im an incoming freshman at Purdue. Im studying Computer Science and Finance and hoping to break into an IBD/S&T gig after college (hopefully in Chicago). How is Purdue seen/represented in Chicago firms?
Thanks!
Stronger in S&T, obviously. Seen very few guys in IB. One of the least represented schools amongst MM IBs IMO.
Transfer to Indiana's Kelley if you're already in Indiana.

Im going to try to transfer to Notre Dame/Vanderbilt/UNC after freshmen year. But as of now, I am at Purdue.
ND doesn't take transfers to the business school- scratch that off your list.
Also, I don't want to restrict myself only to S&T or IB. I am also considering AM or Consulting after college. Do those place well from Purdue?
Have you ever considered UVA?
Dude I don't get why you don't just transfer to Indiana University...they take transfers, and they place better or on par with Vandy and ND...I don't know much about UNC, but I would bet they are outplaced by IU as well, especially in Chicago.
Im a huge prestige freak. I wanna go to a school which has top tier academics. IU has a 73% acceptance rate and accepts basically everyone. Even if you are in some program or club which is extremely competitive, the entire reputation of IU is not up to par. I'd rather go to a baller school. That's just me i guess. I got into McCombs today so Purdue is out of question now LOL. Does McCombs place better or worse than IU?
He's just a HS senior who thinks he's a big dick. Whatever, this will pass. In a few years you'll realize either 1. You're not good enough for banking or 2. You're good enough for banking but banking sucks and prestige doesn't even matter. I work at a top BB/EB and let me tell you, banking sucks and this HS/Middle school attitude isn't going to get you anywhere.
McCombs and Kelley place about the same. Both pretty well. If you want Chicago though, it's going to be Kelley hands down. They place into most of the top shops in that city (except maybe GHL but all the BB's and Lazard have IU ppl in them). McCombs is going to be Texas centric with good NYC placement. Please do not try to comment on which school is better than another with literally zero real information.
Sorry that wasn't my intention. I think Kelley is an amazing school, but I was talking about IU as a whole. Indiana carries great weight in the business world, but thats not so in other departments. I said I want to go to a well rounded school which is stellar no only in business, but in other colleges/majors. The schools I listed above, ND for example, has a good reputation as University as a whole. Sorry if I sounded like a douche-I was really excited I got into McCombs.
I'm sorry. I guess I will learn in time. Other than that, do you recommend getting a compsci major if I decide to S&T? Or will a finance + applied math be sufficient?
I bet you don't even know how to math.
This thread is dead. Thanks everyone for you input!
Purdue Representation in Chicago? (Originally Posted: 02/13/2015)
Hey WSO,
I was wondering how Purdue's engineering program is represented in Chicago. I plan on majoring in Computer Science and Finance and hope to break into S&T or IBD. I'm guessing none of the BBs recruit from Purdue, but how about MM IBD/S&T?
If there are any Purdue Alumni, I would love your input about the college. Thanks guys!
