Question about Sponsors Group

I've read on here that sponsors groups differ widely between banks in that some hold the model and have good exits to PE while others don't do much quantitative analysis. For those in the more qualitative groups- is it relatively easy to lateral to a different coverage group after a year? Assuming you can pass the modeling test in the interview, will you get treated as an experienced ib lateral in the interview process?
