Question about UK interviews

Hey guys,

Had a quick q if anyone has the time to answer. When I am asked the question "tell me about a recent deal our bank is worked on" do I have to pick a deal done by the UK side of the bank? Just seems way easier to find in depth info on deals done in the US.

Thx

Thank you for the helpful reply. I am also French - altho I study in the UK

Couple of follow up Qs:

1. How many deals do you expect candidates to know? I have an upcoming phone screen and was just going to do 1 in depth, or should I prepare for more?

2. Are there any specific tips that you would give about this interview question? Maybe some common mistakes that you see

3. What is the best way to find specific numbers (e.g. multiples) for EMEA (or US) deals? It seems as if a lot of specific figures are behind paywall

Sure, hope this helps:

1) Normally I expect candidates to know 1 deal in depth and to be able to mention another one, with that that´s more than enough to prove that you did a small research about our firm.

2) I like when people explain first of all the deal, who did we advise, what was the EV and the premium paid. Bonus points if you offer any other public information (expected synergies, multiples if they are public) and the rationale behind the deal

3) Many times you can get the multiples yourself (L12M or LY), by using the EV which is usually published and by going to annual reports and using such EBITDA you can get the EV/EBITDA multiples. If you have quarter information you can also create your L12M multiples. Anyways there are different sources that provide them such as MergerMarket...

Let me know if anything unclear.

The most important thing is to do some small research, this question will not position yourself for the offer, its more like "did you take time to research", if you tick it that´s enough for me, nonetheless if you go some steps beyond that may help to offset a bad answer to "why this Bank". For me why us and tell me about recent transactions are 2 questions that go together and need to be addressed profesionally, showing some proactivity and ability to perform high-level research.
