Quit my job at a top 3 BB after 1 year. Now driving for uber. Have I ruined my life? help
I graduated from a top 25 undergrad business school. After graduation, I worked in a structured products investment banking analyst role at a top 3 bank in NYC. I lost 30 pounds and my mental health was completely destroyed. I quit that job after 1 year and have worked at a startup this past year. My mental health has dramatically improved, but my current role pays basically nothing. Because of this, I’ve been forced to drive for uber on the side.
I’ve been applying to other entry level back office type roles in FP&A, derivatives, investments, etc at many financial and insurance companies among other no name companies. I’ve been searching for a new role for roughly 7 months, only had a handful of interviews and 0 offers.
Is there any hope for me or is my life completely ruined?
I literally just want a remote job making 70k
The market is rough and you are applying for jobs where you may be deemed overqualified.
This is one of the few instances where you may want to consider adding an objective section to your resume so you don't get screened out too early.
Please tell me this is a troll post

Are you only open to remote jobs? Those are very hard to come by these days. Tech and startups have stopped hiring, and big companies are pulling way back on remote. IMO you need to be open to hybrid or on-site jobs.
Also, you should be networking - focus on high-quality roles where you'd be a good fit and target those teams. Just dumping your resume is not going to get you very far.
I’ve applied to a multitude of in person, remote, and hybrid jobs. The only ones I’ve gotten to the interview stage with are remote. I’m also applying to jobs in third tier cities with no luck
Prob because you have no connection to that city and they wonder why you would downgrade so much / worry you would leave very quickly
Another question - how big are any gaps on your resume? If you had a 6-12 month gap at any point that should be explained over a networking call, a blind resume toss will just get thrown out.
1 year of IB + 1 year of startup is a competitive profile unless you have massive gaps. Obviously it's a tough market in general, but F500 FP&A shouldn't be too hard to land if you network.
Employment gaps are very hard to break through. I would recommend grad school. Try to get into one for as little money as possible.
Really unfortunate to hear, wishing you the best. Have you gotten linked up with any head hunters? They shoot your resume to plenty of places. Some opportunities better than others of course. I’ve been looking to get into the exact role you left (Structured Products banking). I was under the impression the hours are typically a little better than most IB groups. Apparently it depends on shop?
Could u not get something in finance at DoorDash/Lyft/Uber?
because of driver experience hah?
