RBC Culture/Work-life and Analyst Base Salary (NYC)

Title, see a lot about RBC Calgary about this stuff but wanted to see what the RBC NYC team is like for culture and work/life especially for the top teams like PU&I or M&A.

I saw a job posting saying the range was $110-130k and then another salary for a different coverage group at RBC saying $90k-105k. Any clarity on what the actual 1st year analyst salary is would be great, thank you!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, RBC's first-year analyst base salary in NYC has been reported at $100K for some time, which aligns with the lower end of the bulge bracket and upper middle-market banks. However, there are mentions of potential variations depending on the group or team, with some postings suggesting ranges between $90K-$105K or even $110K-$130K. These discrepancies might reflect differences in specific coverage groups or updates in compensation policies.

As for culture and work-life balance, RBC's PU&I (Power, Utilities & Infrastructure) group has been noted for frequent job postings, which could indicate higher turnover. This might stem from analysts lateraling to better opportunities or leaving due to other factors. While specific details on work-life balance for NYC teams aren't explicitly outlined, RBC generally competes with other bulge bracket banks, so expect demanding hours typical of investment banking roles, especially in high-performing teams like M&A or PU&I.
