RBC Energy Houston
Does anyone have experience w/ their Houston energy group? I'm considering applying for a summer internship with them, but am pretty new to Oil & Gas and not particularly familiar w/ RBC.
Hours, pay, culture, etc.?

Heard they closed 2nd most deals in Houston last year. A&D focused
From an analyst perspective, they don't place as well as the top shops down there. It is still good banking experience though, and you can still get placement if you do well in your interviews.
From what I've heard they have a good, tight-knit culture. Definitely worth applying too if you want to do energy banking in Houston. Apply everywhere.
You will work everyday. Hours are not that bad. Go out with group consistently. If you are not from the South/have a passion for being in Houston/O&G.... good luck. Oh yeah, FT bonuses were large.

I have an interview coming up with them. Does anyone have any insight into this group? What about the NY office? How are their exit opps?

Ok, so I have a buddy who works there. His name is J. Pas***nte. He is leading the recruiting for RBC Houston Oil & Gas. I met when I was an intern in Houston (my dad worked in o&g), before I moved to M&A in NY. They ask mostly behaviral questions, but DO NOT tell them you have an offer elsewhere. While at most banks this is ok, the RBC guys think that you are un-loyal or something...idk.
Good Luck.
bump on this
Had an interview there recently. Most of they guys were very cool and laid back, wanted to know why O&G, why RBC, run through my resume, shoot the shit, etc. Know your technicals well; I only had one interview out of 6 ask me anything more than links between 3 statements, but the guy who did was tough. He was an associate from the Power group, even though it was for oil & gas, and he was asking advanced stuff, unlevering beta, calculating beta...
Not sure about exit opps, but I know their dealflow has been good. They just bought an asset sale shop (Richardson Barr) and that has complemented their business well, and helped bring them a lot of deals. Culture wise it's a lot of UT/A&M/SMU guys, pretty laid back. They work from anywhere between 10-2 Mon-Thurs, usually leave about 7-8 on Friday, and work several hours Sat and Sun as well.
