Realistic Chances for Breaking Into Top IB?
Hey guys, I'm an incoming sophomore at a target school (not HYP but close enough) who is gearing up for the recruiting process. I've done everything I can to position myself in the best way possible; I have previous finance experience, I've joined multiple finance/business clubs on campus, and I have above a 3.9 GPA. Everyone on this forum and elsewhere makes it no secret that getting a top job is damn near impossible. What would you guys say is a ballpark estimate for my chances of landing an offer from a top bank (GS, EVR, CPV, MS, etc.)? Any advice would be super helpful; I will do everything I can to land an offer but want to know my realistic chances going into it.
Would love to hear answers to this as well! Am in a similar position, however don’t go to a target school for IB, but rather one for consulting and Quantitative Finance. I go to Carnegie Mellon University. I guess another advantage that I have is that I am Latino. With that being said, any advice and realism regarding the chances of breaking into a IB role in BB would be great.
Yeah I think you’ll be fine
there’s genuinely no way to answer this question - if you’re asian or white male without connections, your chances at MS/GS are basically 0. If you network a lot and get all your technicals right you definitely have a chance at most other banks (JPM is a toss up because it’s mostly HR reviewing)
Lol, what are you basing this on? If you go to a good school and go through the process well you have a pretty good shot.
Do not listen to the above “prospect” you will be able to break into ms and gs
no way to know i agree, but the poster above is wrong. asian men and white men can definitely get into MS/GS if your not a dumbass from a target.
I don't know what everyone is saying here - if you're at an HYP-level undergrad and have a 3.9 GPA, you have a pretty strong chance of landing top IB presuming you network right...
Use LinkedIn and find alum who you have similar interests/backgrounds to and start networking with seniors at your school and befriend them so they can hook you up once they're in the field. You're going to land somewhere strong and if not, can go somewhere semi-strong and then lateral in.
Saying you have to have a 3.9 is insane. Floor is a 3.5 above a 3.75 doesn’t matter
Well it dont seems nearly impossible since GS have +45 000 employees, JPMorgan have 300 000, Bank Of America have 220 000, etc
I wonder how many of these do the bare minimum just to not be fired while there is a lot of talented recruits on the market. however a 3.9 GPA is not the main requirement I think, its more about human values/skills acquired through your side projects
This might be the worst troll post on this app. You do realize very few of those huge amounts of employees work in IB, nonetheless coverageZ
Agree with other guy, this is a comically horrible take
edit: lol nvm check post history this guy trolling lmaooo
"intern and second year analyst" i will gently discard your toughts on the matter, thanks for your participation anyway.
don't pay attention to them OP, go for it. just be prepared to use different tactics than other candidates
