Referring girlfriend for SA role, should I do it?
So my girlfriend wants to intern at my bank in private banking and I know she can do the job that is not an issue whatsoever.
Just wondering if the mere referral can get me fired for corruption or something since I am at a BB.
I once read a guy was fired because the person he referred was terrible on the job and I’m sure this wouldn’t be the case for her.
She has a strong GPA and is a model on the side and I know she’ll be great for client facing roles too
Just wondering what I should do, another issue we might have is I’m 28 and she’s 21.
The age gap is crazy and i don’t want the feminist HR ladies to crucify me
lol if my gf was a model on the side id try to keep her away as far as possible
She’s a “real” model if that makes sense.
Been in magazines and modeled for Ralph Lauren, Zara etc she doesn’t do it full time because she wants to work in finance
Okay now you’re just using this as an opportunity to hype yourself up. No need to post this. If you’re truly worried about this, there are guidelines in the referral stipulation guidelines and company policies and procedures. There should be a specific area where the rules and regulations are stated. Or, you could just contact HR, since the relationship would need to be disclosed to them anyway, unless you plan on not speaking to your gf at all, outside of formal training or corp. communication, within the office (which would be stupid).
Wtf is wrong with dudes.
I am in a situation looking for answers anonymously and you think I’m doing it to hype myself up to impress you?
What’s the point of specifying “she’s a real model, if that makes sense”? People use anonymous forums all the F ing time to garner external validation, whether that’s hyping up their service line, firm, school, personal choices, compensation, etc. It isn’t a new concept that people use sites like WSO and Reddit in order to anonymously lay out their specific situation, in hopes that everyone will tell them (indirectly, mostly) how awesome they are. If you’re genuinely just looking for advice, I still feel there are plenty of resources, especially at a BB, that could give you the answer you’re looking for more efficiently than WSO (90% College kids). Also, without actually namedropping which BB, there won’t be many ppl on here that could offer any advice better than a personal mentor/HR at your bank.
Bro u sound hella mad he was just clarifying 🤣🤣🤣
You all sound insufferable. I bet you’ll be letting me know she’s a model for sure even without me asking in real life.
Lmao every girl 5'10 or taller has a modelling agency in their insta bio doing holiday catalogue shoots like this
If she was a "real model" she wouldn't be dating a balding 28 year old analyst working in finance...
You'll be fine.
Also, dating a woman 7 years younger is nothing. You wanna get far in finance? Try dating a woman 24 years older, maybe then you might become an MD and possibly even run a country one day.
That’s for the older generations, it’s really frowned upon today for some reason, they try to shame men into dating women that are older
You can even see some in these comments
Keep dating younger girls bro. Older girls shame you because they are upset their options are being taken by the younger, sweeter girls. Don't fall for it
You as a balding 29 year old talking about her grades is weird af I’m sorry.
What in the Reddit is this shit
Bro just made this post to flex his 21 year old model gf
ever consider shes only with you to get a job? never had a young lass i was with ask me for employment
No, this whole scheme was my idea
Its a pretty dumb idea. Clearly you've never heard the phrase "don't shit where you eat."
I'm not a feminist hr lady, but bro wtf kinda relationship is this? You're pushing 30 dating a college girl who's (probably) using you for your job and/or money; or using your balding hairline to heal her daddy issues.
Don't refer her, break up with her and date someone who already has a job. You are too old to be acting like this, and blaming potential repercussions on others.
Get a life unc damn
I don’t date fat pigs thanks but no thanks. I’ll leave that up to you.
And you’ll understand when you’re older
When did you start dating
If you're 28 at a BB and your only options in women are "fat pigs" or teenagers, then clearly you're the problem.
Incels never grow up, they just turn into groomers and pedos with a fancy resume
Stay mad lil bro
Fellas, half the women in the city are “real” models and signed with an agency like Ford and IMG. New York is modeling capital of the world besides Paris. So many chicks at NYU are models.
Private banking especially attracts a lot of former models, athletes, pageant queens etc. At my school, there was the running joke that Morgan Stanley exclusively only hired models no matter how irrelevant their resume was lol. I don’t think your gf will stick out that much. If the public perception of the age gap concerns you, I would have her agree with you to keep your relationship hidden during the extent of her internship. I’ve had plenty of coworkers and classmates keep their relationships secret until one of them moved companies.
Had a college GF who was the face of J Crew at the time...she was a year ahead of me. We once went into a J Crew in SoHo when I was visiting her in the summer while in college, and the cashier pointed at the massive picture of her behind the cash register and said "isn't that you" - she was cool and said no, but I like her look...was kind of proud of her in that moment. Cool girl.
She grew up in NYC and was with one of the top agencies mentioned above starting at like 16. Not the hottest GF (or as hot as my wife), but she had the look and height. Her dad was CEO of a top 50 US public company. She graduated college and had no idea what to do. Her mom or dad took her to dinner with John Mack, and boom she was a MS analyst. That lasted maybe 6 months, she hated the work/hours and then magically she was at a top ad agency. Some people are born with luck, but I don't hate on her opportunities because she's a great person and really smart. With that kind of money I wouldn't have done IB, but so it goes...
Not even trying to be funny but she should’ve gone into private banking like I recommended to my GF
Like the other commenter said there’s lots of former athletes and models there
Yeah I brought up the modeling thing because I figured people would try to insinuate she isn’t qualified for a job in private banking.
They totally ignored the GPA and started attacking me based on that.
Few people have even tried to answer the question and instead just started insulting me.
The funny thing is I’ve experienced stuff like this in real life, with guys “accidentally” shoulder checking me and yelling “we got a problem?” or spilling drinks on my shoes when she’s around
It’s eye opening to see that kinda behavior on this sub
Yeah, there was no need to mention she is a model let alone a ‘real’ model. To be fair, we don’t know if she attends a school like Princeton/Uchicago with huge grade deflation or some state school.
It's bc the modeling part seemed over-the-top for an explanation, you could have just left it at conventionally attractive, and people would understand. Like I mentioned before, so many girls at places like NYU are models in the sense that they're signed to agencies and have worked for brands everyone recognizes, so people in the city kind of roll their eyes when it gets brought up. It's like when someone says they're a real actor in LA.
Everyone knows that private banking is basically a sales job, and attractive people are the best fit for that role. Just refer her and keep the relationship private for the internship stint, if people like her and give her a return offer, it just proves she was a good candidate. It's not like you have control over whether she gets the return offer or not
lol at all of this. what a fun and ridiculous read. to answer your question: no, i don't think an analyst (or whatever your title is) is at risk of being "fired for corruption" for referring the equivalent of an intern...
lol the insecurity in this entire thread reeks
Would bang
This thread is hilarious why is everyone so mad 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You won with her. Just refer her to the job as a family friend or something and don't interact insinuate that you're fucking while at work. If I may ask, how did you meet? apps? cold approach?
Thanks bro.
She’s really smart and kind too and I’m not necessarily “rich” or anything certainly not compared with other dudes in NYC
We met on Raya
ur cooked bud
My two cents: don't refer anyone you have a relationship with because your objectivity will be questioned. This includes family, cousins or significant others/partners. What you could do instead is frame it differently. "Hey X, this person reached out via LI. She sounded like a solid fit, she asked if there's anyone to speak to for her interest in (other domain/function, etc.) and wanted to see if you'd be open to chatting with her."
Indirectly referring someone basically means connecting her with another colleague and not saying a word of your relationship to the firm in any form. This allows others to view her for her merit and ttt to get a referral from someone else.
Referrals just make sure the resume is read and does not guarantee an interview, not to mention that she may choose to not pursue finance after working in the field. Putting a bit of distance between the two of you (on paper) is the safest way to go. Outside of that, keep personal convos off corporate comms.
You can always help out in other ways like with mock interviews, app review and guidance. In firm ecosystem and culture (all without corporate scrutinizing your choice).
